Description
Ipamorelin
(Selective Growth Hormone Secretagogue – Ghrelin Receptor Agonist)
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide belonging to the class of growth hormone secretagogues (GHS). It was developed as a selective agonist of the Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptor (GHS-R1a), commonly known as the ghrelin receptor, with the goal of stimulating endogenous growth hormone release while minimizing interaction with other endocrine pathways. Unlike direct administration of Growth Hormone, Ipamorelin has been studied for its ability to trigger the body’s natural secretion of growth hormone through hypothalamic and pituitary signaling mechanisms. Research has focused on its receptor selectivity and reduced interaction with other pituitary hormones compared with earlier growth hormone secretagogues. Experimental studies have investigated Ipamorelin in models related to endocrine signaling, metabolic regulation, and growth hormone pulsatility.
Mechanism of Action
(Based on Preclinical and Experimental Research)
Selective ghrelin receptor activation: Ipamorelin binds to and activates the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a), mimicking signaling pathways associated with the endogenous hormone
Ghrelin.
Stimulation of pituitary growth hormone release: Activation of GHS-R1a promotes secretion of growth hormone from the anterior pituitary gland.
Hypothalamic signaling regulation: Research indicates interaction with hypothalamic pathways that regulate the balance between
Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone and somatostatin.
High receptor selectivity: Experimental models suggest limited stimulation of other pituitary hormones, which differentiates Ipamorelin from earlier GHRP-class peptides.
Endocrine feedback modulation: Investigations have explored how Ipamorelin influences natural growth hormone pulsatility and feedback mechanisms within endocrine regulatory systems.
